Ph.D. Position TVL-E13/100% | Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuit Designer for AI Accelerators

The integrated circuits group of INT is looking for candidates to design analog / mixed-signal circuits to increase the energy efficiency of AI

Topic:

  • Analog & mixed-signal circuit design in cutting-edge FD-SOI CMOS technology
  • Ultra energy-efficient circuits for artificial neural network (ANN) inference
  • Optical data link equalization with ANNs

Your profile:

  • Strong background in analog or mixed-signal circuits
  • Ability to dive deep into integrated circuit problems
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written
  • Background in AI and ANNs is a plus

We offer:

  • An inspiring and friendly research environment
  • A well-organized research team at the institute
  • The freedom to contribute and implement your own ideas
  • The opportunity to write a doctoral thesis and get a Ph.D. degree
  • A fully paid position

We expect you to:

  • Design complex analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits
  • Apply the needed IC design diligence, precision and accuracy
  • Integrate well into our team and contribute your talents to the whole institute
  • Publish your results at conferences and in journals
  • Be curious about ANN applications in optical fiber communications systems

Objective:

Design, characterization and application of novel ultra energy-efficient electronic integrated analog computing circuits in 22 nm FD-SOI CMOS technology within the BMBF-funded project SUSTAINET. The circuits will be the core of a new neural ASIC for signal equalization, crosstalk compensation and low-latency signal regeneration in transceivers for optical transmission links. The major advantage of analog neural circuits over conventional digital signal processing is the potential of an order of magnitude higher energy efficiency.
