Subject

As global data traffic continues to grow exponentially, traditional single-mode optical fibers are reaching their capacity limits. To meet future bandwidth demands, Space-Division Multiplexing (SDM) has emerged as a promising solution by enabling the simultaneous transmission of multiple data streams through distinct spatial channels in a single fiber. Among SDM techniques, Few-Mode Fibers (FMFs) offer a scalable pathway to drastically increase data throughput without proportionally increasing system complexity or physical infrastructure.
In my current research, I focus on the development of heterogeneous SDM transmission systems using FMFs and Multi-Core Fibers (MCFs). This includes exploring randomly coupled multicore transmissions, investigating the integration of Multi-Plane Light Conversion (MPLC), and analyzing system behavior in realistic network conditions. The aim is to contribute to a better understanding of how SDM can be utilized more effectively in future optical communication systems.
